At 5.30 this morning we began cruising from Avignon to Arles. We woke up at 6am and popped up to the sun deck to watch the sunrise. We were travelling at a pretty fast speed. We went through a lock, this was interesting, the water was pumped out of the holding bay very quickly and it only took approximately 10 minutes or less, to drop 12 metres. We had a lovely buffet breakfast (and lots of coffeee) and then went on a walking tour of the city. There is a lot of Roman influences and they have a small colleseum. The town was nice but we both prefer Avignon and are looking forward to returning tomorrow. Most of the shops were shut today, aarently the French party hard and need Monday to recover. We have a three course lunch! and then went back for another look at the town before returning to the boat for cocktails. The new shoes are getting quiet a work out, 17500 steps today and its only 4pm.
So far the french people have ben wonderful, we have found them to be so welcoming and friendly. I'm epecting that this might be different when we get to Paris.
We are the youngest on the crusie by a good 30 years, most people avoid joining our table. We are getting lots of wierd looks.
Tomorrow we cruise to Avignon and we are looking forward to a tour of the Papal Palace (Palace of the Popes) and popping into some little shops that werent open yesterday.
